Q: Are most Mormons Republicans or Democrats?

Posted by Ask a Mormon On 6:23 PM

A: Actually, most Mormons are not Republican or Democrat. Or Independent. Most Mormons, in fact, are not American. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a worldwide church, and more than half its membership comes from outside the United States. There are 27,000 church congregations in 177 countries, with worship services held in over 180 languages. (See here, here, and here for statistical and membership information.)

When it comes to the political party of Mormons in America, though, you'll have to ask them individually. Mormons choose their own political affiliation, and not all share the same political ideology.

  1. It is also interesting to note that there are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in the U.S. government through both the Republican and Democratic parties.
