A: The 129th temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will, in fact, be open to the public starting this week. Work on the temple was recently completed and, as is customary with every new LDS temple, there will be a period called an "open house" during which the public is invited to take a tour of the temple. The Draper Utah temple will be open to the public from the 15th of Jan. to the 14th of March, 2009. People of all ages and beliefs are welcomed to tour the beautiful facility. Free tickets are still available (click here for more information).

In these open house tours, visitors are able to see all there is to see in the temple. After the period of the open house, the temple is blessed, or dedicated, and put into full-time use. Church ordinances are then performed in the temple on a regular basis. These ordinances are very sacred to a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They represent private covenants with the Lord that are not usually talked about outside the temple. For more information on LDS temples, click here.
